 The Chandler Family
During WW2 my Father was in the Royal Navy, he was posted out to Australia and was billited with a family called Chandler. I still have the letters and photographs that were exchanged between the two families after my Dad returned home. Over the years I have looked at the photographs and wondered what had happened in their lives and whether they remembered my Dad. This week I decided to post a message on Rootschat to see if anyone could suggest ways of finding out more about them.....I didn't even know their Christian names and the only fact I knew was that their Daughter Sylvia had died in 1950.
The members of Rootschat were fantastic and went to a lot of trouble to to search newspapers and cemetery registers. I now know that they family were originally from London and had only emigrated in 1921. Through Find my Past and Ancestry I have traced them back to the mid 1800's in London.
The saddest thing about it is that Mrs. Chandler only died in 1998 at the age of 103 and had I made contact earlier I may have been able to contact her direct and let her know about our Family.....so the moral is if you think about contacting someone do it before its to late!!!
