 Tunisia - local roman history
I hate seeing all these threads dead, so here goes:
2 minutes around the corner from my house is a very small museum - in fact an excavated roman villa, complete with remnants of the era and also the central heating system uncovered to show to our current society, who thought they'd invented it!! There have been several visiting American groups over the years that have helped to excavate what is now on show. The surrounding area is controlled by the municipality, no-one is allowed to build unless their site has been controlled... Everything is currently Olive groves. My friend came over last year, and her husband - a budding archaeologist - spent a happy afternoon in the museum, and then collecting remnants of vases etc, from the recently dug over olive groves surrounding the vacinity. He was over the moon when I showed him a little corner, where a mosiac covered wall had been re-discovered......which is now surrounded and being looked after by a guardian...
